{"id":935,"date":"2010-10-08T16:12:38","date_gmt":"2010-10-08T16:12:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/agilepartnership.com\/?p=271"},"modified":"2010-10-08T16:12:38","modified_gmt":"2010-10-08T16:12:38","slug":"cant-wait-to-go-home-and-hug-my-resource","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agilepartnership.com\/fr\/cant-wait-to-go-home-and-hug-my-resource\/","title":{"rendered":"Can\u2019t wait to go home and hug my resource!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/agilepartnership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/family.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-277 alignright\" style=\"margin: 10px;\" title=\"family\" src=\"http:\/\/agilepartnership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/family.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"379\" height=\"208\" \/><\/a>It\u2019s been a tough yet fulfilling week.\u00a0 Now that it&#8217;s over, I finally get to go home and give a huge hug to my 11 year old resource!<\/p>\n<p>You might have guessed, but I\u2019m talking about daughter who I love more than anything!\u00a0 But since she\u2019s simply a resource, I can easily replace her with any 11 year old kid and it\u2019ll work just fine.\u00a0 I get home, Vanessa has been replaced by&#8230;Sara and I give her a big hug, ask her about her day, play a game or two and prepare dinner.\u00a0 Since I know exactly what she likes and what she\u2019s allergic to, it\u2019ll be shrimp dumplings with peanut butter sauce. \u00a0Mine you, I\u2019ve never met Sara before, but a resource is a resource \u2013 It\u2019s all the same.\u00a0 If I can easily replace my material resources, such as a printer, and expect the same results, why would it be any different with human resources? What so special about humans?<\/p>\n<h4>A small favour<\/h4>\n<p>To at least all you fellow ScrumMasters and Agile coaches out there, I\u2019m asking you a tiny little favour: Please stop referring to individuals as resources.\u00a0 Just like my daughter, individuals working in a team are not interchangeable.\u00a0 Team members go through the <a title=\"Forming-Storming-Norming-Performing\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tuckman%27s_stages_of_group_development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">classic evolution stages<\/a>, learn to work together and strive to become highly efficient.\u00a0 If you pluck someone out and replace them like you would a memory chip, it will negatively affect the team.<\/p>\n<p>Using the term \u201cresources\u201d does nothing to discourage this all too common practice in many organizations.\u00a0 Slowly help your organization to drop the term \u201cresource\u201d when referring to individuals and maybe, just maybe, it\u2019ll change the way project teams are perceived &#8211; Not just as bunch interchangeable robots hacking away on a keyboard, but a group of motivated individuals who are determined to find that perfect synergy.\u00a0 In the corner over there, you have a true team (not to say a family) that is sharing a common vision with common goals and the unwavering belief that together they can deliver higher business value all the while lowering cost.<\/p>\n<p>Now go home and hug your family.\u00a0 Hopefully, no one was replaced \ud83d\ude09<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s been a tough yet fulfilling week.\u00a0 Now that it&#8217;s over, I finally get to go home and give a huge hug to my 11 year old resource!
